About the event
When there is a low tide, the Moon faces the Earth at a right angle to the Sun so the gravitational force of the Moon and Sun work against each other. These tides are referred to as neap tides; a low tide or one that is lower than average. We're going to celebrate this with a walk over to the shingle island and have a game of something together! Apparently, word has it that cricket was once played on this little island in years gone by to celebrate the neap tide, as is still done in some places around the UK with a similar island that gets fully uncovered allowing people to walk across once a year. We'll figure out what game we play, but the point of it all is just a bit of fun really. So whether you want to just walk across and watch, have a dip off the side, or show off your master ball skills, put on your sea shoes, hitch up your skirt or your trousers and come along for a fun way to spend a few hours! No experience necessary ;) We'll meet in the car park at the bottom of Hillfield Road at 5.30pm, walk over, have some fun, then walk back before the tide comes back in. Allow 2 hours. Bring a drink or a bite to eat/share too if you like.
