February Gathering: Great Day Out To Brighton Beach Box Sauna

BEACH BOX Sauna on Brighton beach front is an all year round, wood-fired public beach sauna. I visited it in the summer when they supported an event on outdoor swimming and loved it. So whilst putting together ideas for the winter period, I thought - why not do a trip there! 

We can choose between 2 saunas - one in a beautifully converted horse trailer and another larger sauna made from upcycled packing crates.  Both with a view of the beach, sea and the Brighton's iconic pier beyond.

They like to encourage people to 'wake up and reconnect with your body by plunging into the sea to cool down'. So that's what we'll be doing! But only if you fancy it - if not you can stay in the warmth of the sauna ;) The sauna experience gives the space for relaxation, body care, digital detox and socialising.  They introduce those who visit to the sauna-bathing experience you may have never known you needed!

They have fresh water, warm and cold showers.  If you want to, you can upgrade the experience with hand-made salt scrubs and/or leaf whisking!  It's lovely! I love what these people are doing by exploring the best of European bathing traditions and bringing them to us - as they say, "it's a hard job but someone's got to do it!" Bit like Selsey Sea Bathing! 

FAQ's, Timings, Practicals & Getting There

How do we get there?

By pooling cars. I will certainly drive and can take 5. We'll sort out the rest once I know how many are coming. If we leave just shy of 9am on Saturday 1st Feb all together in a few cars (according to how many are coming) then we can arrive just before the 10.30am session which I'll book for us. That then means not the whole day is taken up and you have time for others things too. 

Timings & Cost

The sauna session lasts 120 minutes - we can stay the whole duration or not, plus a dip in the middle of that for those who want to.  This is a paid-for trip (not-for-profit) as I don't expect the Society to fund this unless you cannot afford it but would still like to come (in that case please email me at justine@selseyseabathingsociety.com and I will arrange the Society to cover the cost for you in those instances - as that's what this Society is about, looking after each other). Beach Box Sauna charge £20pp for the 120 mins session. In order to book a slot in for us I'll need your commitment in advance. Please could you make payment to my paypal account and email me to tell me you've done that. If you could do this by 5th January and I'll then book the right number of slots.
